Growth of output continued in June

Total output increased by 3.5 per cent in the year to June. In May output went up by 2.5 per cent. The Monthly Indicator of Total Output indicates that output grew in all main industries of the national economy in June, except for agriculture and forestry. In the first half of the year, i.e. in the January to June period, output increased by 3.4 per cent from the year before.

Growth in the production of electrical equipment continued to boost manufacturing. The production of electrical equipment increased by nearly 37 per cent in the year to June. Output in manufacturing as calculated per working day increased by 5.6 per cent. The total growth of the economy was also bolstered by the increased production of construction, trade and transport. Output in agriculture and forestry decreased by 4.7 per cent, primarily due to commercial fellings.

Output in construction grew by 6.5 per cent and in trade by 5.8 per cent from June 1998 to June 1999. Output in transport went up by 2.7 per cent. In other services and government services, output increased by 1.6 per cent.

The Monthly Indicator of Total Output is based on twelve monthly series on different sectors of the economy. The series are summed up by weighting.
