Output continued to grow in August

The volume of total output grew by 2.8 per cent in the year to August. The Monthly Indicator of Total Output of Statistics Finland indicates that output grew in all main industries of the national economy.

Output in agriculture and forestry grew by 2.8 per cent. Output in manufacturing as calculated per working day increased by 2.1 per cent. The total growth of the economy was bolstered by increase of domestic demand, particularly in construction, trade and transport.

From August 1998, output in construction increased by 7.5 per cent and in transport by 4.5 per cent. Output in trade grew by 4.4 per cent. Other services and government services increased by 1.6 per cent.

The Monthly Indicator of Total Output is based on twelve monthly series on different sectors of the economy. The series are summed up by weighting.
