Growth of output 4.4 per cent in September

The volume of total output was 4.4 per cent greater this September than in September 1998. The Monthly Indicator of Total Output of Statistics Finland indicates that, except for agriculture and forestry, output went up in all main industries of the national economy.

Output in manufacturing as calculated per working day increased by 5.2 per cent. The total growth of the economy was mainly boosted by domestic demand; particularly growth in construction, trade and transport.

Output in construction grew by 14 per cent from last year's September. In trade, output increased by 7.6 per cent and in transport by 3.8 per cent. Other services and government services increased by 1.6 per cent, whereas in agriculture and forestry output contracted by 0.6 per cent.

The Monthly Indicator of Total Output is based on twelve monthly series on different sectors of the economy. The series are summed up by weighting.
