National economyCulture, media and time useCorona effects on the field of culture are also visible in culture satellite data for 2020
According to Statistics Finland's data, the supply and demand of culture declined in the first corona year 2020 in relation to the level of the whole economy as well. The restrictions and closure measures were particularly strongly directed at a few service industries, e.g. culture. The calculations are compiled based on the most detailed national accounts data produced at a lag of 14 months instead of the previous 19 months, so the culture satellite can be published already in May. The compiled calculations continue the earlier time series.
Key points
- The share of culture in output, value added and employed persons was 2.9 per cent in 2020.
- The consumption expenditure used on culture fell clearly in the first corona year.
- Difficulties in the field of culture in the first corona year are also visible in cultural satellite accounts, even though the method is somewhat crude.
