According to Statistics Finland's labour force survey, the number of employed persons in the third quarter of 2023 (July to September) was 3,000 higher than in the corresponding quarter of 2022. The number of unemployed increased by 6,000 persons.

Number of hours worked decreased slightly

In the third quarter (July to September) of 2023, the average number of employed persons was 2,641,000 or 3,000 more than in the corresponding quarter of 2022.

The number of hours worked by employed persons was 976.5 million hours in the third quarter of 2023, which was 1.3 per cent less than a year ago.

Share of persons working part-time decreased

In the third quarter of 2023, altogether 473,000 employed persons worked part-time, which was 17.9 per cent of all employed. The share was 0.4 percentage points lower than one year earlier.

Of those working part-time, 108,000, or 22.8 per cent, worked part-time because full-time work was not available. The number of persons in this group decreased by 9,000 compared to the corresponding period of the year before.

Number of unemployed grew slightly

The average number of unemployed persons in the third quarter of 2023 was 195,000, which was 6,000 more than in July to September 2022. The unemployment rate in the third quarter of 2023 was 6.9 per cent, having been 6.7 per cent one year earlier.

In July to September 2023, the number of persons in the inactive population was 1,295,000, which was 4,000 more than a year earlier.
