Number of reported robbery offences grew by 17.9 per cent in 2023

According to Statistics Finland's preliminary data, a total of 508,000 offences against the Criminal Code were recorded by the police, customs and border guard in 2023. This is 6.7 per cent more than one year earlier. A total of 1,400 rapes as defined in the new legislation on sexual offences were recorded. Good 2,700 robberies were reported.

Key selections

  • The recorded number of offences against life was 62, which is 17 fewer than in 2022.
  • The legislation on sexual offences was amended on 1 January 2023.
  • Altogether 1,139 cases of sexual harassment referred to in the new legislation were reported. In all, 343 of the acts were committed on the Internet.
  • A total of 146 reports of non-consensual dissemination of sexual images were reported. Of the acts 120 were committed on the Internet.
