Data:	Latest release: Discontinuation of education increased in tertiary level education 20 Mar 2013 In all, 5.7 per cent of students attending education leading to a qualification or degree discontinued their studies and did not resume them in any education leading to a qualification or degree during the 2010/2011 academic year. In upper secondary general education, the discontinuation percentage was 4.0, in vocational education aimed at young people it was 9.1, in polytechnic education, 8.8 and in university education, 6.5 per cent. In upper secondary general education and in vocational education, discontinuation remained unchanged compared to the previous academic year but in polytechnic and university education, discontinuation increased. These data derive from Statistics Finlands Education Statistics. Next release: Statistical releases will not be issued in English from these statistics in 2013.
Description:	Statistics Finland has been compiling statistics on discontinuation of post-comprehensive school education from individual-based data on students and qualifications since the academic year of 2000-2001. The data on discontinuation are obtained by examining the situation of students having studied in September xxxx in September xxxx+1. If a person has not continued to study or has not qualified during the year in question, he or she is defined as having dropped out of education. Data on discontinuation of education are published annually in Statistics Finland’s publication Educational Institutions. The central object of examination in these statistics is the sector of education: upper secondary general education (day schools), vocational education (secondary level excl. adult education and special education institutions), polytechnic and university education (lower and higher-degree level tertiary degrees). Data have also been compiled from other points of view, for example by educational institution, field of study or region. In accordance with the Statistics Act, the personal data from which these statistics are compiled are confidential. As a rule, the statistics produced from them are public. Read full description >>>
