The number of European patents granted to domestic manufacturing enterprises fell by 14 per cent from the previous year in 2011. A total of 573 European patents were granted to enterprises and associations in 2011 while the respective number in 2010 was 657. The number of enterprises having received patents was also lower than in the previous year. These data derive from statistics on patenting in 2011 published by Statistics Finland.

Like European patents, the number of patents granted by the United States Patent and Trademark Office (USPTO) to Finnish enterprises and associations also fell from the previous year in 2011. The total number of granted patents decreased by 191 because fewer patents were granted to the electronics industry.
The number of domestic patents granted to enterprises and associations remained on level with the previous year. Altogether 647 patents were granted to 250 enterprises in 2011.
