Comprehensive schools had 541,900 pupils in 2011

According to Statistics Finland, comprehensive schools had 541,900 pupils in 2011. The number of pupils in comprehensive school fell by 0.8 per cent from the year before. Forty-nine per cent of the pupils in comprehensive school were girls and 51 per cent were boys. The number of pre-primary education pupils was 58,800, of whom 12,600 were in pre-primary education in schools and 46,200 in day care.

Description: The statistics on comprehensive schools contain data by individual school on numbers of pupils in comprehensive schools, special schools at the basic level of education, and in schools at the basic and upper secondary general levels of education. The data on the current autumn describe the situation on 20 September and those on completions of education the previous school year. In connection with the data collection, information is also gathered about special education and subject choices of comprehensive school pupils (see Special education and Subject choices of students).
