A total of 88 per cent of enterprises are connected via broadband

In spring 2008 a total of 88 per cent of enterprises were connected via broadband. The propagation of broadband access has continued in enterprises of all sizes. Of all enterprises 21 per cent had a broadband connection with a transmission speed of at least 8 Mbps and 57 per cent had a broadband connection with a transmission speed of at least 2 Mbps. Connections with a transmission speed of at least 8 Mbps were clearly more common in large than in small enterprises. Of the largest enterprises 60 per cent had a high-speed connection, while the respective proportion in the smallest enterprises was 17 per cent. The prevalence of high-speed connections varies considerably also when examined by industry. High-speed connections were clearly most commonly used in the industries of post and telecommunications (57%) and business services (37%). These data were collected with an inquiry in spring 2008 and they apply to enterprises with at least five employees.

Internet home pages continued to become more common and currently already 73 per cent of enterprises have a home page. As many as 94 per cent of enterprises with at least 50 employees have a home page and the respective proportion among enterprises with 5 to 9 employees is already 65 per cent. The industries which most often had a home page were wholesale trade (89%), business services (86%), post and telecommunications (84%) and manufacturing (83%). Home pages were rarest in the industries of transport (52%) and retail trade (57%).
