The statistics on goods transport by road divide into two separate surveys on domestic transport and international transport. The statistics on domestic goods transport by road describe the domestic transport activity of lorries registered in Finland for both private and licensed transport. The statistical unit is lorry. The survey is a sample survey conducted quarterly as a postal inquiry. Each year, the questionnaire is sent to altogether 8,400 lorry owners asking them to provide data on their lorries and their use over two consecutive survey days. The data in the statistics derive from those obtained with this inquiry about lorry trips, which are then raised with statistical calculation methods to correspond with the total sampling frame and quarter. The statistics on international goods transport by road describe the transport of truck tractors registered in Finland for commercial transport in international goods transport. International goods transport refers to transports from Finland to other countries and from other countries to Finland, and transports between and inside third countries.
