Business Register Inquiry on Establishments

Log in to the form via Suomi.fi identification or with the user ID and password sent by Statistics Finland.

The Suomi.fi identification as an organisation respondent requires that you have been given a mandate via your organisation to respond to the inquiry. The mandate is granted in the Suomi.fi service.

⁠Because you respond on behalf of the organisation, you need a mandate for the Suomi.fi identification from your organisation. The name of the mandate required is Responding to data collections from enterprises and organisations.

Statistics Finland's Business Register contains data on enterprises, associations, establishments and groups operating in Finland. The basic variables are number, personnel and turnover. The data is classified by industry, region, owner type, legal form and size category.

Employment statistics is an annual statistics providing data by region on the population’s economic activity and employment. The data to be provided are population activity, economic distribution, occupation, number and location of jobs, education and income data of the population and workforce. The basic population of the statistics consists of the population permanently residing in the country on the last day of the year. The data is mainly based on administrative registers and statistical materials.

The data from the data collection are used in the following statistics:

The establishment is a unit located at one address and activating one industry.

If there are activities of different industries at the same address, form they a separate establishment, such as

• a bakery
• a coffee shop

Full-time equivalent (FTE) describes employees work input converted into full-time employees. A person that has worked permanently or temporarily for the establishment and whose input has been compensated as earned income is counted as an employee.

An employee who has worked full-time for a year corresponds to one person year. Part-time employees are converted into full-time employees.

For example:

• Full-time employment of six months or half-day employment that has lasted for the whole year corresponds to 0.5 person years
• 60 per cent employment of eight months corresponds to 0.4 person years (0.6 * 8 months/12 months = 0,4)

- For employees who have been laid off or on unpaid leave during the year, the work input is provided for the period for which they have received salary.​

- The work input of an employee who works at several establishments during the year is provided for the establishment where he works as a rule. If the main establishment cannot be determined, the employee's work input is provided to establishment from which the work is managed.

- The work input of employees working remotely is provided to the nearest administrative establishment from which the work is managed.

- Employees from a temporary employment agency or a personnel service agency are reported as interim workers.

For the purposes of employment statistics, the data of the employees placed in the establishment is provided according to the time of filling out the form or the last day of the year.

The work input of those working remotely is reported to the nearest administrative/work-leading unit.​​

When the activity is short-term or quickly moving from one place to another, a establishment is not established. In the construction and transport industries, the establishment is, for example, a regional office or a permanent office, from which the activities are managed.

The Business Register maintainsup-to-date data about Finnish enterprises and assosiations, threír locations and activities.

The inquiry must be answered, because the data is not available in the Income Register, which are

• Establishment´s name
• Establishment´s address
• Establishment´s industry
• Establishment´s start-/end date
• Establishment´s person year

Establishment´s IDs can be requested from yritysrekisteri@stat.fi

Note! Establishments at the same address, but belonging to different industries, are provided to the Incomes Register with different Establishment codes (bakery, cafe).

If you have entered the employees' establishments in the Income Register using Statistics Finland's establishment´s IDs, you do not need to provide the employees' information in the inquiry. A notification to the address tyossakaynti@stat.fi is sufficient.
