The turnover calculated from the periodic tax returns, which are the main data source for the turnover indices, does not fully conform with the turnover concept of the Bookkeeping Act because it may contain e.g. sales of fixed assets, other income and extraordinary items. The data may also contain errors arising from e.g. optical reading or data suppliers' mistakes. These errors are corrected with the data that are collected direct.

The former Monthly Indicator of Total Output has been revised and is published under the new name of Trend Indicator of Output. The development work was done during 2008 alongside the calculation of the indicator without breaks in publications. The development project has now ended but some changes can still be expected in 2009. So far the calculation of the indicator has been harmonised with the calculation methods of the quarterly accounts output. The calculation of industry-specific data is now primarily based on value data deflated with previous year's average prices. This produces volume figures at previous year's prices, in which the previous year is always the base year. Volume changes at previous year's prices are used to chain a continuous volume series at reference year 2000 prices with the so-called annual overlap method. This series is published as the Trend Indicator of Output. This method corresponds to the deflation and chaining method applied to quarterly accounts output.

Starting from the February release, the former Monthly Indicator of Total Output has been published as the Trend Indicator of Output. The development work is still ongoing, and the project continues until the end of 2008.

The value of imports in the supply and use and input-output tables 2000-2005 is smaller than the revised value of imports in national accounts data published in January 2008. Because of the time-consuming process involved in balancing the supply and use tables, no attempt to rebalance the supply and use sides has been made at this stage. Values of imports in supply and use tables and input-output tables will be corrected together with other national accounts revisions. New tables will be published in 2009. Till then the total value of imports in the tables will diverge from the revised value of imports as shown in the table.

Statistics Finland is in the process of revising its monthly volume index of industrial output so that it will describe output at constant prices. Exploitation of data on the value of industrial activity, deflated with suitable price indices, will be gradually increased in the calculation of the index. Some of the data on value will not become available to Statistics Finland within the time lag of approximately 30 days of the monthly releasing schedule of the index. Because of this there will be more frequent revisions to the data within a year than in the past.

The calculation methods of national accounts and the time series data of annual national accounts for the years 1975-2004 have been changed. In particular, changes have occurred in the calculation methods of the volume development of gross domestic product and its sub-components. At the same time, other revisions were made to time series. The changes are mainly due to the harmonisation work of national accounts carried out in the EU. Because of the changes the national accounts data for 2005 released earlier on 1 March 2006 are not in all respects comparable with the data published now.
